An important biography of the 17th-century free-thinking English clergyman, William Chillingworth (1602-1644), who made significant contributions toward the advancement of religious tolerance in England. The biographer, Pierre Des Maizeaux (1673-1745), a journalist who came to England from his native France, became well known among the English intelligentsia of the early 18th-century, including Locke, Hume, Bayle, Anthony Collins and Addison. Provenance of Clement Cotterell (1686-1758) an English courtier and antiquary. On his father’s death Cottrell became Master of the Ceremonies. The office of master of the Ceremonies at the British court had been established by James I of England in 1603. The Master’s duties were to receive foreign dignitaries and present them to the monarch at court. Sir Clement held that office from 1710 until 1758, during the reigns of Queen Anne, King George I and King George II. COLR1725FKLP-1123

Always a great value, very well packaged, quick shipping and always as described. I am a repeat customer and will always check listing from this seller first when I’m in the market for an antiquarian book.

This arrived safely and it was well packaged. This is exactly as described and it included a thank you on a postcard. This was well thought out and the seller knows how to handle and ship rare books. This was worth more than it was sold for, in my opinion, and I greatly appreciate doing business with this person.
