The Life of Francis Bacon, Lord Chancellor of England By Mr. Mallet, Printed for A. Millar, London, 1740, illustrated title, 197 plus publisher’s list, full original leather, 8 x 5.5”, 8vo. In as-is condition. Binding copy. A previous owner has painted on a thick layer of veneer along the boards. It was done poorly and is now flaking off. Spine painted with veneer as well. Edges are worn with light crushing at corners. Spine abraded and worn with loss and minor red rot. Morocco spine label slightly chipped at edges. Both boards are detached along with their front end papers. End papers are toned at edges. Interior good and bright with minor instances of age stain. Free of known marginalia. Binding remains intact. A good candidate for proper restoration.
