Edited by W. Mason and with an additional memoir of the poets life. With an engraved frontispiece of Gray. Thomas Gray was a poet born in 1716. Publishing only 13 poems during his lifetime he gained great popularity, and was famously offered to position of Poet Laureate, which he declined. A lovely edition of Gray's poetical works ideal for those with an interest in the poetry of the 18th century. CONDITION In a tree calf binding. Externally, sound, though with some wear to the extremities, including some rubbing. Front joint has failed, with board detached, and rear joint is tender. Small institutional label to front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just a few instances of foxing.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
