Human Life A Poem Samuel Rogers 1920 John Murray : London 7" by 4.5" [1], 8-108, 1pp SUMMARY A reflective poem by a celebrated but largely forgotten poet of the Romantic Period. Early Edition,Leather Binding Overall Condition: Very Good This book weighs 0.5 KG when packed UK Postage: £ 3.99 US Postage: £ 15.99 EU Postage : £ 13.99 European Postage: £ 14.99 Asia Postage: £ 18.99 Worldwide Postage: £ 19.99 DESCRIPTION A smart copy in full calf of the 1820 second edition of Samuel Rogers's reflective poem 'Human Life'. His literary output was notoriously slow, and this poem is said to have taken him 12 years to complete. In a panelled calf binding, with blind tooled floral motif to the front board. Despite being one of the most celebrated English poets of his day, Roger's fame has since been greatly overshadowed by his friends Coleridge, Wordsworth and Byron. Bears a contemporary dedication dated 23rd August 1824, to 'Miss Ann Wallace, with the wishes and esteem of A Friend'. A former owner's inscription is also present on a front endpaper, 'D. L. Cumming'. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart. A few light marks to the boards, and some light rubbing to the joints resulting in a little loss to the leather. Front hinge is slightly strained but remains firm. Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, and a contemporary dedication to the recto of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Occasional pencil notations for emphasis to the margins, not obscuring the text. Pages are slightly age toned with occasional light spots and marks to pages. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
