Antonio Canova was an Italian Neoclassical sculptor and often regarded as one of the best of this era of sculpture. From the library of James Lees-Milne, twentieth century English writer and architectural historian, with his book plate to the first pastedown. CONDITION In half calf binding and marbled boards. Externally, sound. There is some rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The joints are cracked. The hinges are starting but firm.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
