A selection of the beautiful portrait paintings by George Hayter, this collection showcasing then-living eminent political reformers. Illustrated with twenty-seven plates. Collated, complete. Including portraits of Earl Grey, Lord Melbourne, Earl Spencer, Joseph Hume, Charles Buller, and more. With brief biographies on each portrait subject. William Howitt's history of the progress of parliamentary reform included. CONDITION In the original half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine, resulting in a small amount of loss of leather. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Small crack to the head of the joints. Boards and spine are a little discoloured in places. Hinges are starting but firm. Institutional label to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots. Institutional stamp to the title page, ink to the reverse of the title page. Institutional stamp to a few pages, including to the plates. Some plates are a little edge worn with some tidemarks. Plates of Melbourne and Grote are edge worn with some closed tears, not affecting the portraits. Page 167/168 is worn with a little loss to the gutter, though leaf is not detaching.
