Wear and staining to front and rear boards. Moroccan red leather with gilt designs on front and rear boards. Tips are bumped. Chipping and cracking to spine, but still legible. Headcap is lacking with exposed binding. Fore edges in gilt. Patterned endpapers. Gift inscription in ink on front endpaper. Frontispiece opposite title page. The Seasons is a series of four poems written by the Scottish author James Thomson. The first part, Winter, was published in 1726, and the completed poem cycle appeared in 1730. The poem was extremely influential, and stimulated works by Joshua Reynolds, John Christopher Smith, Joseph Haydn, Thomas Gainsborough, and J.M.W. Turner.
