Complete with 37 plates of maps and portraits. With letters and comments from those who knew him, this memoir offers the reader a comprehensive view of the 19th century military and political leader. As well as serving as Conservative prime minister between 1828 and 1830, and briefly again in 1834, Wellesley's superior military defence was crucial in the Napoleonic Wars. Dated using JISC from estimate of the National Trust Library and others. CONDITION In half morocco binding over cloth. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the joints, with a little wear to the extremities. Front hinge of volume I starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a little age-toned, but generally clean aside from the first and last few pages.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
