He was best known for promoting railway and telegraphic communication with India and for his numerous publications on on Indian railways, that allowed his capacities for engineering to become known. The largest scheme of Sir William Andrew's life was the 'Euphrates Valley Railway'; first proposed in the 1830s as a more direct route between Britain and India. Whilst the idea was supported with funding by Sultan Abdulmecid I in 1857 the British government refused to fund the scheme, leading it to be dropped with the completion of the Suez Canal in 1869. This fascinating work, written anonymously by two authors, provides a comprehensive study of the written memoir by Andrew that detailed his plans for the railway through the Euphrates Valley between the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf. Very speedy delivery and extremely well packaged. The book is in wonderful condition for age, better I think than described. This now sits alongside a companion volume, another work of Worcestershire historian and antiquarian, John Noak. I very much looking forward to reading it. As for price, I snatched the offer and am extremely pleased that I did. This seller is a perfect find on eBay and I would purchase from them without hesitation, saved seller, excellent.
