Maurice Polydore Marie Bernard Maeterlinck (1862 – 1949), also known as Count/Comte Maeterlinck from 1932, was a Belgian playwright, poet, and essayist who was Flemish but wrote in French. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911 " in appreciation of his many-sided literary activities, and especially of his dramatic works, which are distinguished by a wealth of imagination and by a poetic fancy, which reveals, sometimes in the guise of a fairy tale, a deep inspiration, while in a mysterious way they appeal to the readers' own feelings and stimulate their imaginations". The main themes in his work are death and the meaning of life . He was a leading member of the group La Jeune Belgique , and his plays form an important part of the Symbolist movement. In later life, Maeterlinck faced credible accusations of plagiarism. Alfred Sutro OBE (1863 – 1933) was an English dramatist, writer and translator. In addition to a succession of successful plays of his own in the first quarter of the 20th century, Sutro made the first English translations of works by the Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck. An enthusiastic and expert beekeeper, Maeterlinck did not intend to write a scientific treatise, even though he details such topics as the mathematically accurate construction of the hive, the division of labor among community members, the life of the young queen and her miraculous nuptial flight, and the movement and meaning of the swarm. This book far exceeded my expectations! It’s in the most pristine condition of any of the old books that I own. Robins Rare Books is amazing. Always a great value, very well packaged, quick shipping and always as described. I am a repeat customer and will always check listing from this seller first when I’m in the market for an antiquarian book.

This arrived safely and it was well packaged. This is exactly as described and it included a thank you on a postcard. This was well thought out and the seller knows how to handle and ship rare books. This was worth more than it was sold for, in my opinion, and I greatly appreciate doing business with this person.
