The Boyhood of Great Men intended as an Example to Youth John G Edgar , 1862 8 illustrations ( engraved woodblock etchings) by Birket Foster London : Routledge, Warne, And Routledge Farringdon Street; New York : 56, Walker Street Forty biographies of great men in nineteen different categories (Poets, Historians, Statesmen, Inventors, &c) intended to inspire boys and young men to seek their own greatness in life. This was his first book, published in London in 1853. He wrote historical narrative fiction, mainly intended for boys, as was the first editor of Every Boy's Magazine. The double history is the ownership of this book . As shown in photos, O.C. Waterfield is written twice in fountain pen . Ottiwell Charles Waterfield ( O. C. Waterfield ) authored The New Suez Canal , Considerations addressed to the committee of shipowners appointed … May 10, 1883 This HC leather bound spine / board book is in good condition, with some flaws from aging and the writing inside . Pages are tightly bound , though 1 plate ( Wilkes) is loose . ( please see photos) . The cover page is missing . There are initials in pencil . P 130 is very discolored (photo) Please see all photos as part of description. Overall well preserved , with some flaws . Double dose history!
