Attractive full antiquarian leather bindings with mottled boards, slightly raised & gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting leather labels. Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Bindings age worn and dried but still appealing, leather and joints dried with some surface crackling and small spots of chipping, rubbed but still supple, some joints splitting or tender, set remains overall very attractive as an object. Note- the (internal) hinges of Vol. 1 were repaired long ago with what looks to be cello tape and the joints show evidence of repair as well, but both covers still well and firmly attached. Still a great looking set on a shelf, with outstanding mottled full leather boards. Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally set remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A set which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new. Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this scarce and pleasing antiquarian set as it survives. We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment.
