Blake, and Manning & Loring, 1800. First edition. Contemporary sheep, rebacked with imitation leather, new endpapers added, with half title and one blank each front and rear. vi, [3], 10-304 pp. List of subscribers at rear. A collection of orations given by figures of the time, including General Henry Lee, Gouverneur Morris, and others. Front blank with contemporary ownership inscription: "The Property of William Sumner, Dorchester, 1801" (although his name is not among the subscribers), along with a later gift inscription in pencil dated 1874. That same gift inscription is repeated to the rear blank, along with another presentation note dated 1885. Original covers rubbed and scuffed with some small stains visible. The original front blank has been repaired with archival tape at the fore-edge and bottom edge, and has ownership marks as noted above. Half title and title page with some foxing and stains. Scattered foxing and offsetting throughout, with pp. 38-52 heavily foxed. Occasional pencil underlining. Free shipping via Priority Mail.
