Description
INTIMATE PORTRAYAL OF A WOMAN WHO REINVENTS HERSELF JOYCE CAROL OATES is one of America's most prolific authors with more than 70 novels and numerous short stories, plays and criticisms to her credit and she has won many prestigious awards for her peerless and fluent writing skills. But she says she found this novel extremely difficulty to write - perhaps because it was so personal as well as fictional. The author's signature - clear and bold - graces an inside page of this book. The novel is not strictly autobiographical but it does touch on elements she has known in her own life. It is a deeply intimate psychological depiction of an extremely talented young woman's journey from an impoverished and difficult childhood to her emergence a respected literary figure in upstate New York. THIS COPY IS FROM The Franklin Library's Signed First Edition Society series and it is in pristine condition with clean, crisp and unmarked pages and an unblemished brown-dyed leather binding. Like all other volumes in the series, it is handsomely produced with a gilt design on the front and rear covers extending to the hubbed spine. The page ends are gilded for appearance as well as protection and there is a sewn-in ribbon page-marker, also in brown. A note from the publisher about the production is laid in (see picture above) and there are no signs of previous ownership such as an inscription or a bookplate.
