Description

Franklin Library leather edition of Louis Bromfield's "Early Autumn," Illustrated by Jerome Pickney, a Limited edition, one of PULITZER PRIZE series, published in 1977. Bound in camel tan leather, the book has burgundy French moire silk end leaves, a satin book marker, hubbed spine, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition. Louis Bromfield, who lived from 1896---1956, was a journalist, expatriate, progressive and accomplished farmer. He studied agriculture at Cornell and journalism at Columbia, drove an ambulance in World War I for the French army, spent many years after the war as an expatriate in France. He lived in India for a short time. In 1939, he returned to Ohio and spent his life experimenting in farming and writing his books. "Early Autumn," published in 1926, was called by The Book man "a dramatic novel and a stinging satire. . .an important book an entertaining one." The novel opens with "a ball in the old Pentland house . . . because a young girl in the family, SYBIL PENTLAND, eighteen years old, is to be introduced to society. . .the house was "all bedizened with lanterns and bunches of late spring flowers, and in the bare, white-painted, dignified hallway a Negro band, hidden discreetly by flowers, sat making noisy, obscene music." 338 pages. Seller earns high marks for very safe wrapping, quick delivery and right price. Book is in excellent condition. To no fault of seller, and unusual deviation of normal high standards of the publisher, I would not recommend this book to others. It has has very disappointing photography that distracts from art of Rodin. But I highly recommend the seller.

Quite the surprised, at first I thought I ordered something from a pet shop because of the box turns out to be my order xD. My books were well packaged no noticeable box damage internally and externally. They were as described in the listing and shipped promptly in a 2 weeks window. Would recommend seller.
