UP FOR AUCTION: RARE BOOK: Memoirs of JOHN FREDERIC OBERLIN : Pastor of Waldbach in the Ban de la Roche (Compiled from Authentic Sources chiefly in French and German) by John Frederic Oberlin, illustrated with a silhouette portrait frontispiece and 4 other plates including 3 lithograph views, Published by Holdsworth and Ball, London, UK, 1829, 1st Edition ("1829" on Title Page), Printed by R. Clay, Bishopsgate, Leather Book, 352 pages, In English language only, This is an antique, 1829, memoir of J.F. Oberlin (1740-1826), published shortly after his death. He was an Alsatian pastor, who developed a great following for his tireless work and passion for philanthropy. Oberlin College in Ohio is named for him. The book is signed by 2 former owners. The front endpaper has the signature: "Lady Buxton, Colne House" and the first blank page has the signature: "Beatrice Baret (?), New York, at 2nd hand (?)". My research shows Lady Buxton was the wife of a Baronet of the United Kingdom, and she lived at "Colne House" in the coastal town of Cromer, Norfolk, England. See ebay pics above for actual book. This is a nice, vintage, historic book. Fair Condition [ Leather spine-covering is nearly complete, but small pieces are missing at top, bottom, and lower half; Hinges are intact-but-loosening considerably; first 6 sheets of text are present-but-separated, Front endpaper has name of former owner "Lady Buxton, Colne House" and first blank page has name of another former owner "Beatrice Baret, New York (?)", Title Page and frontispiece have moderate foxing (see pics above); otherwise, leather book is solid, text is very clean, strongly printed, well-illustrated, and fully complete ] 352 pages, approx. 8.5" x 5.5" x 1.25", mottled boards with Leather Spine and Corners, Gilded titles, Top paper edge gilded, 1/2 Leather Book Welcome international ebay shoppers I will reduce combined shipping on multiple purchases.
