Description
Scott, Sir Walter, THE LIFE OF NAPOLEON BUONAPARTE EMPEROR OF THE FRENCH. Edinburgh: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green, 1827. 9vols. complete, 2nd ed., ½ leather hardcovers w/gilt titling and ornamentation to spine, 8vo (7.250x 4.625”), 9vols. approx. 4,500 pp. Contemporary ex-lib, per evidence of ink stamp, sporadic light chipping to external edges of binding, corners lightly bumped and rubbed, vols. 1 and 3 hinges started, w/vol. 3 showing signs of having the lower leather of the spine reattached with a large horizontal crack across spine, text block edges dust soiled, light staining occasionally through all volumes with the predominance in the end-papers as usual. Hinges of all volumes are surprisingly strong and tight. Quite the superlative work have we here. A wonderful and distinctive set of tomes indeed, to say nothing of their being among the very greatest exposes of Buonaparte and his empire ever written.
