No. 714 This hardcover book measures 7 3/8" X 11 1/8" - 396 pages with B&W illustrations. The book is half-leather bound, with five raised bands, and gold inlay on the spine, and corners, front and back. The pages are gilt edged on all sides, with marbled endpapers. The plum colored textured boards are faded in the areas near the tops, front and back, with minor soiling and fading on the front outer edge. The pages are bright, with little or no age toning. The corners are bumped, with not much wear. There is a 2 1/4" split on the front hinge, near the top, although the hinge is strong. Fritz Eichenberg's book Works of Mercy is in a category by itself, simply one of the most moving and beautiful books. I wanted to give it to a friend. The book arrived yesterday, I was stunned - it was in "Like New Condition."
