Description
Memoirs of the Life and Character of Rev. John Eliot, apostle of the N. A. Indians By Martin Moore, A.M. Published: T. Bedlington, Boston, 1822 . 174 pp. Hardcover in full calf binding; gilt bands. Front board nearly detached, hanging on by a thread. Reprints 9 letters from Eliot to the Hon. Robert Boyle. Gilt bands on spine have mostly faded away. Light browning to the pages but they are not brittle. Clean text. Scarce in the marketplace and institutions. Not in Howes, and not to be confused with HOWES W-530 (Wilson, 'The Life of John Eliot') that was published 6 years later in Edinburgh. Last appeared at auction in 1971. A truly beautiful copy of this scarce and important work. Not Ex-Lib. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

This rare 1822 hardcover is a fascinating piece of history, offering a deep look into the life of Rev. John Eliot and his work with Native Americans. The full calf binding has aged beautifully, though the front board is delicate. The reprinted letters to Robert Boyle add incredible value, and despite some spine wear, the text remains clean and readable. A true collector’s gem—hard to find and packed with historical significance. Perfect for anyone passionate about early American religious history!
