I am a retired ObGyn and medical historian who has collected books and instruments for over 40 years. Age and downsizing have prompted me to pass along my items to younger collectors with the space to display them. As time permits, I will be listing approximately 300 books and over 100 instruments on eBay. This is a 1993 reprint of Stephen Paget's biography of John Hunter. It was privately printed by Gryphon Editions for members of "The Heirs of Hippocrates Library". It is bound in blue leather, with gilded edges and gold stampings. It measures ~ 7.75 x 5.25 x 1 ", and weighs ~ 1 lb 2 oz. It is in near-mint condition and is unmarked. Please look at the photos. John Hunter (1728-1793) was a British anatomist and surgeon, best known for his meticulous dissections and scientific approach to surgery. He learned his craft under the auspices of his older brother William, ten years his senior, who was a prominent obstetrician for the upper classes of London. He prepared many of the specimens illustrated in William's monumental atlas of the gravid uterus. He later became famous and wealthy in his own right and was esteemed by his pupils. Edward Jenner, who introduced vaccination, was among them. I will ship U.S.P.S. Media or Priority mail. International sales will be handled by eBay.
