Hogg, Thomas Jefferson. The Life of Percy Bysshe Shelley. London: Edward Moxon, 1858. 2 volumes. Beautifully bound in contemporary three-quarter blue Moroccan over marbled boards, spine gilt with titling over red. Marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Each volume is illustrated with an in-text etching to the rear of the text, volume one contains a frontispiece. Collated complete. These two volumes were all that were published of the author's project to detail the full life of Percy Bysshe Shelley in a four volume set. Volume three was never finished and volume four was never written as the author died before completion. They are now considered a scarce set. The life of Percy Bysshe Shelley, an English Romantic poet known as radical in his poetry as well as in his political and social views. Written by Thomas Jefferson Hogg, a British barrister and writer best known for his friendship with Percy Bysshe Shelley and their collaboration on several literary projects during their time at University College, Oxford. A quite handsome set with some rubbing to leather and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot.
